Do you suffer from persistent infected ingrown toenail? Ingrown toenail surgery might be the answer you’re looking for to rid your ingrown toenail once and for all!
If conservative methods have been tried and failed then a Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) is a permanent procedure which removes only the offending nail portion leaving the visible nail plate intact.
What is involved with the procedure?
- First, so no pain is experienced during the procedure, your podiatrist will use Local Anesthetic to numb the area.
- Once the toe is completely numb, the offending nail will be cut and removed.
- To ensure this part of the nail does not regrow a solution called 'Phenol' is used to kill the nail producing cells.
- After the Phenolisation process is finished the area will be cleaned and dressed.
- You must then leave this dressing in place and keep dry until your next appointment in approximately 2-4 days.
